MedRefillDFW / Refill questions
DFW prescription refill questions, answered
Practical answers for DFW residents, airport travelers, students and adults between primary care appointments.
Can I request a prescription refill online in Dallas–Fort Worth?
Adults 18 and older who are physically in Texas can request a $39 clinician review of established, non-controlled medications through MedRefillDFW, the DFW entry point to MedRefillCare by Americare Telehealth. A prescription is issued only when medically appropriate. Medication costs are separate.
What does the $39 refill review include?
The $39 pays for clinician review of the request, not a guaranteed prescription or a supply of medicine. Medication, laboratory testing and other services cost extra. Records, video, testing or in-person evaluation may be needed. See the pricing and refund policies before paying.
Can travelers at DFW Airport or Dallas Love Field use the service?
Eligible adults physically in Texas may request review while visiting Dallas–Fort Worth. Have your current medication label or fill history and a local pharmacy ready. There is no airport clinic, terminal pickup or medication delivery through this service.
What if I forgot my medication or lost my luggage?
Ask your home and local pharmacies whether an eligible active prescription with refills can be transferred or filled locally. If a new prescription is needed, submit your medication history for clinical review. A label photo or pharmacy fill record may help confirm treatment; approval is not automatic.
Can college students use this refill pathway?
Yes, eligible students 18 and older who are physically in Texas can request review, including students at UTD, UTA, UNT, UNT Dallas, TWU, SMU, TCU, Dallas College’s El Centro Campus and Collin College. This is an independent service, not a campus clinic or university insurance benefit.
Can I get a bridge refill if my PCP is in another state?
A Texas-authorized clinician can evaluate whether temporary continuation of an established, non-controlled medication is appropriate while you arrange follow-up. Share your records, remaining supply and next appointment date. A bridge refill and its quantity are not guaranteed.
Which established medications may be considered?
Examples include selected blood-pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, diabetes, reflux, asthma and allergy medications. Some stable non-controlled mental-health maintenance therapies may also be considered. Eligibility depends on the medication, treatment history, symptoms, monitoring and clinician judgment. Use the eligibility checker before payment.
Can you refill controlled ADHD medicine, benzodiazepines or opioids?
No. Controlled substances are excluded from this service. Contact your usual prescriber for an appropriate care plan. A lost bottle or travel deadline does not change this service exclusion.
Do I have to be in Texas during the review?
Yes, for this DFW pathway you must be physically in Texas at the time of care. Your mailing address, school enrollment or home PCP’s location does not establish your current location. Tell the care team if you leave Texas before the evaluation.
Can I use a prescription from another country?
You may submit your original packaging and records for independent review, including the generic ingredient, strength and directions. An overseas prescription is not automatically converted into a U.S. prescription. Availability and formulations may differ, and further evaluation may be needed.
Can I choose a pharmacy near my hotel or campus?
Yes. If prescribing is appropriate, select a pharmacy convenient to you. Confirm its hours, stock, dispensing requirements and charges directly. Pharmacy fulfillment is separate from clinical review; approval does not guarantee availability or pickup before a flight.
How quickly will my request be reviewed?
Reviews occur during business hours and timing varies. There is no guaranteed turnaround or flight-deadline service. Additional records, video, testing or an in-person visit may be needed. Call during business hours if you need help deciding whether this pathway fits your situation.
Do student insurance or out-of-state plans cover the service?
Do not assume coverage from a student plan, travel policy or out-of-state insurance card. The self-pay review costs $39. A BCBSTX PPO verify-first pathway is available subject to plan-specific verification; medication coverage is a separate question for your insurer and pharmacy.
What should I upload with my refill request?
Use the secure intake for your medication name, strength, directions, label or fill history, last dose, remaining supply, allergies, usual prescriber, relevant recent readings or labs and selected pharmacy. Do not send health records through ordinary text messages.
Does each listed DFW city have an office?
No. The city directory describes telehealth service coverage, not office locations. The practice contact address is 163 Town Place, Suite 68, Fairview, TX 75069. An online review does not require a trip to that address; some cases require separate in-person care.
When should I seek urgent local care instead?
Call 911 for chest pain, severe trouble breathing, stroke symptoms or another emergency. If you are unwell after missing medication or cannot safely wait, seek prompt local medical evaluation rather than waiting for an online refill review. This is not an emergency service.
