Medication Refill Help for International Travelers in Texas
Medically reviewed by Nicholas Atudonyang, MD
Board-Certified Physician · Last reviewed October 2026
Visiting Texas from another country and running low on an established maintenance medication? Americare provides physician-led bridge-refill evaluations for eligible adults physically located in Texas.
$39 self-pay applies to patients not using insurance for the visit. Prescriptions are never guaranteed.
Who this is for
Adults visiting Texas from another country who are running low on an established, non-controlled maintenance medication and need a temporary bridge-refill evaluation.
You must be physically located in Texas at the time of the telehealth encounter.
This includes tourists, business visitors, parents and relatives on extended stays, and international students. See help for international students.
From Dr. Atudonyang: “I have personally evaluated, and when appropriate prescribed for, international visitors from India, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Greece, the United Kingdom, Australia and Nigeria who found MedRefillCare online, and visitors from Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, the Congo, Sudan, Egypt, Morocco, Cameroon, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq who were referred by word of mouth.”
Made simple for travelers: No account to create. You get a guided intake and one-to-one help by WhatsApp, text or phone. A U.S. phone number isn’t needed, because WhatsApp works with your number from home. A hotel or your host’s address is fine, and any valid photo ID, such as a passport or national ID card, is accepted. We work with you so that, when a prescription is appropriate, it reaches the pharmacy you choose in good time. Prescriptions are not guaranteed.
Leaving the U.S. for a long trip? If you live in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida or Colorado and will be abroad for an extended time, request a review before you leave, while you are still physically in the state. The clinician can review whether your established medications can be prescribed to last the trip, and whether you need travel medicines such as malaria prevention. How much a pharmacy or insurer will dispense at once varies. Vaccines are given at a travel clinic or pharmacy, not by video. No controlled medications.
What to have ready
- Original medication bottle, box, blister pack, or clear photo of the label
- Medication's generic and brand name if known
- Exact strength, dose, and how often you take it
- Allergies and other medications
- Recent relevant laboratory results or home readings when available
- Your regular doctor's name/contact information or prior prescription/medical record if available
- English translation of the medication name or records when reasonably available
A foreign prescription is not automatically “refilled”
Americare's clinician performs an independent Texas clinical evaluation. The clinician decides whether enough information is available to prescribe safely and whether the requested medication is appropriate for this bridge-refill service.
A prescription may be declined, shortened, changed, or deferred pending records, laboratory testing, video, or in-person care.
Your pharmacy in Texas
If a prescription is medically appropriate, it can generally be transmitted electronically to the Texas pharmacy you choose. Americare does not sell, dispense, ship, or deliver medication and does not require a partner pharmacy.
Medication availability, formulation, and brand names can differ between countries and pharmacies.
Not appropriate for this pathway
- Controlled substances, opioids, benzodiazepines, or ADHD stimulants

- New or unstable symptoms that require urgent or in-person assessment
- Requests made while the patient is outside Texas
Emergency symptoms: Call 911 or seek emergency care for chest pain, severe shortness of breath, stroke symptoms, fainting, severe allergic reaction, or other emergency symptoms.
